Energy Minister Victor Parlicov is taking part in the second part of the 14th General Session of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), which opened in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

On Wednesday, Victor Parlicov attended IRENA's plenary session, which centered on the goal of tripling renewable energy capacity by 2030, a commitment signed last year by 118 countries, including Moldova, at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28), which also calls for doubling energy efficiency.

The discussions helped to launch an exchange of experiences on overcoming the recent energy crisis and energy cooperation.

The event continued with a ministerial round table and focused on the topic of geopolitical changes, which have an impact on global energy security in the context of advancing renewable energy and climate change. During the discussions it was mentioned that the recent energy crisis has taken the entire European continent by surprise and that in the last two years EU consumers have had to pay more for energy due to their dependence on imported fossil fuels and in this context the transition to green energy is a priority.

During the round table, the successes of European countries in consolidating electricity grids were noted, including the synchronization of the electricity system of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine with the continental one (ENTSO-E), which has opened new market opportunities and strengthened the level of security of energy supply, strengthening the energy independence of our country.

In the margins of the event, Victor Parlicov met with representatives of the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO). Discussions focused on the importance of the green economy as the best way for sustainable development, but also for the promotion of joint initiatives. In this context, the parties exchanged views on the collaboration with the Global Alliance for the Green Economy (GAGE), led by the Government of the United Arab Emirates and WGEO, which facilitates attracting investment in renewable energy projects.
