The Day-Ahead Market (DAM), operated by the Electricity Market Operator (OPEM), recorded an all-time high in electricity traded for the delivery day of August 22, 2026. The traded volume amounted to 4,487.576 MWh, equivalent to approximately 40% of the Republic of Moldova’s electricity consumption, at an average price of MDL 2,427.08/MWh, equivalent to approximately EUR 120/MWh.
The record reflects the significant increase in trading volumes on the DAM and growing interest among wholesale market participants in short-term trading mechanisms.
In the Republic of Moldova, commercial operation of the DAM was launched on December 10, 2025, with the first delivery day being December 11, 2025. The launch of the DAM marked an important step in the development of the wholesale electricity market and in bringing Moldova’s trading mechanisms closer to those used on European energy markets.
The DAM allows participants to buy and sell electricity for the following day through a transparent and competitive mechanism in which the price is determined by the interaction between supply and demand. The development of the DAM and the Intraday Market contributes to the development of the wholesale electricity market and brings the Republic of Moldova closer to European energy market mechanisms.
Electricity Market Operator M LLC (OPEM) is the electricity market operator in the Republic of Moldova and a subsidiary of OPCOM S.A., the electricity and natural gas market operator in Romania.
Trading results and information on the operation of the DAM are published by OPEM on its official website: www.opem.md.
