The State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Cristina Pereteatcu, recently participated in a panel discussion organized within the framework of the Annual Meeting on Cybersecurity, held in Geneva, Switzerland, under the auspices of the World Economic Forum. The event brought together experts and leaders from around the world to discuss the latest challenges and solutions in the field of cybersecurity, with a special focus on critical infrastructures, including in the energy sector.
Cristina Pereteatcu highlighted the significant progress of the Republic of Moldova in integrating the Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) in the energy sector, emphasizing its importance for streamlining and securing services, including those provided to end consumers. The State Secretary noted that the Ministry of Energy has included DPI as an essential component in the Digital Transformation Strategy, with the aim of modernizing the country’s energy infrastructure and promoting the green transition.
“The digital transformation of the energy sector in the Republic of Moldova is a strategic priority. By implementing the public digital infrastructure, we aim not only to make energy production and distribution more efficient, but also to secure them against emerging cyber threats. Collaboration with European partners and compliance with the highest international cybersecurity standards are essential to protect critical infrastructure and ensure a secure and sustainable digital future for our citizens,” said Cristina Pereteatcu.
A key point in the discussions was the active collaboration of the Republic of Moldova with the European Union, in particular through support programs for cybersecurity and critical infrastructure protection.
“Faced with increasingly sophisticated cyber risks, including ransomware attacks and supply chain vulnerabilities, the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Moldova has adopted an integrated approach to protecting digital infrastructure. This includes advanced security measures, in line with ISO standards and European regulations, and continued collaboration with cybersecurity authorities in the European Union to strengthen our capacity to respond to and prevent cyberattacks,” the Secretary of State added.
Cristina Pereteatcu also stressed that the Republic of Moldova is focused on developing digital platforms designed to facilitate citizens’ interaction with energy suppliers, providing them with access to real-time information on energy consumption.
We recall that the Annual Cybersecurity Meeting, organized by the World Economic Forum, took place in Geneva, Switzerland, from November 11 to 13.
Over 150 of the world’s leading cybersecurity leaders from business, government, international organizations, civil society and academia came together to enhance collaboration for a safer and more resilient global cyberspace.
