Republic of Moldova to benefit from World Bank pilot project on cyber security in the energy sector
The Republic of Moldova is to be included in a World Bank pilot project on cyber security in the energy sector.
Energy Minister Victor Parlicov has discussed with the expert mission in Moldova possible areas of technical assistance under the recently launched "Energy Data Integration & Innovation Hub" initiative. The initiative aims to assess the current state of cybersecurity in the energy sector and to come up with proposals for solutions to improve it in order to prevent cyber-attacks that would affect the proper functioning of the system and Moldovan consumers.
The minister asked that key enterprises in the sector be included in the assessment. "We want to make sure that the data transmitted is secure, especially as new technologies have already started to be applied," said Victor Parlicov.
The World Bank is providing support to Moldova to ensure energy security through the construction of the 400 kV Vulcanesti-Chisinau high voltage line and to improve the efficiency of Chisinau's centralized heat supply system. And it recently announced that it aims to launch a major new energy efficiency project.
