The Minister of Energy, Victor Parlicov, had a meeting with Dorota Suliga-Dlouchy, the Special Representative of the European Union in the negotiations on the Transnistrian settlement, Head of the Directorate for Georgia, Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Belarus within the European External Action Service (EEAS).

The subject of the discussion was the prospects for the supply of natural gas to the Transnistrian region after January 1, 2025, when the gas transit contract from the Russian Federation through Ukraine expires. The parties discussed the possible scenarios that the Republic of Moldova is considering and the measures prepared.

The Minister of Energy stated that the Russian Federation has all the technical possibilities to ensure the supply of gas to the Transnistrian region through alternative routes, and in the event that deliveries are stopped, there are technical possibilities to supply electricity and gas to consumers on both banks of the Dniester River.

In this context, Victor Parlicov informed that the Ministry of Energy has prepared a winter plan with 44 measures, applicable to energy and gas supply during the cold season. The plan also provides for two major scenarios, one being Gazprom's refusal to deliver gas to the Transnistrian region via alternative routes after the expiration of the transit contract through Ukraine on January 1, 2025.
