Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu held a meeting with the President of the Romanian Commodities Exchange (BRM), Gabriel Purice, who is visiting Chișinău. The discussions focused on the activities of BRM EST and opportunities to expand exchange trading to other types of products.

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu congratulated BRM representatives for their achievements in Moldova and for their contribution to the liberalization of the gas market and the strengthening of the country’s energy security.

In just three years since the launch of BRM EST, the Moldovan subsidiary of the Romanian Commodities Exchange, transactions exceeding €650 million have been recorded for natural gas, fuels, metals, and construction materials, with an estimated €52 million contributed to the state budget through taxes, VAT, and other duties.

Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu expressed interest in BRM’s intention to develop and operate a balancing platform for the natural gas transmission system. According to BRM, this would allow Moldova to align with regional best practices regarding the balancing of gas transmission networks and the use of market benchmarks (TTF and regional references), which are considered beneficial for transparency and accurate price formation.

Options for expanding BRM’s activities to other sectors were also examined, which could create the premises for using standardized auction platforms beyond the strictly energy sector.

It is worth noting that BRM EST was designated as the operator of the wholesale natural gas market by the National Energy Regulatory Agency for a period of 10 years. As a result, more than 35 participants and over 130 million m³ of natural gas have been traded on various market segments of BRM during 2024–2025.
