January 3, 2025, Chișinău – The electricity consumption of the Republic of Moldova for January 2 was fully covered. For today, January 3, the required amount of electricity for the right bank is also secured, even though a 10% increase in consumption is estimated.
For January 2, the entire necessary volume of electricity was covered from domestic sources and imports from Romania, after Moldova stopped receiving electricity from the Cuciurgan Power Plant as of January 1. A more than sixfold increase in electricity production from renewable sources was recorded.
Specifically, the energy sources used on January 2 were as follows:
- Electricity import (RO) – 48.22%
- SA "Termoelectrica" – 30.88%
- Renewable energy – 15.31%
- SA "CET-Nord" – 4.43%
- State Enterprise "NHE Costești" – 1.16%
For today, a 10% increase in electricity consumption is anticipated, and SA "Energocom" has already reserved sufficient commercial capacity at the border with Romania to cover the consumption requirements for January 3.
At the same time, citizens are encouraged to use energy efficiently and rationally, particularly during peak hours from 09:00-11:00 and 18:00-23:00, to ensure the continued stability of the energy system.
No failures or incidents were recorded in the natural gas and thermal energy sectors on January 2, 2025.
On the left bank, the MGRES/Cuciurgan Power Plant has switched to coal operation and is covering the necessary electricity consumption for the region. Available coal stocks are sufficient for 30 to 50 days. The police, medical services, and emergency services are ready to provide assistance to those in need. Central authorities are maintaining constant communication with the mayors of localities affected by disconnections to exchange information about the situation in the region.
