The Cabinet of Ministers approved during today's meeting, the Technical Regulation on Tire Labeling, developed by the Ministry of Energy, with the assistance of the Expertise France project, AFD Group.
The new regulation establishes important measures for all tires intended for road vehicles, aimed at improving road safety, economic efficiency and environmental protection.
The document updates the legal norms on tire labeling in relation to fuel efficiency, wet grip and external rolling noise.
Specifically, the tire label will contain the QR code for quick access to the European database, the supplier's name or trademark, the tire type identifier, tire size specifications, load capacity index and speed category symbol according to UN standards. It will also include the tyre class (C1, C2 or C3), the fuel efficiency pictogram indicating the performance class, and the wet grip pictogram with details of the performance in this respect.
Tyre labelling will provide consumers with essential information on their performance, thus facilitating informed and responsible decisions by vehicle owners. It can also lead to significant fuel savings and reduced CO2 emissions. It is estimated that these measures will reduce overall fuel consumption by around 1%, which is equivalent to an annual reduction of 88 million tonnes of CO2 at European level.
The technical regulation will enter into force 11 months after the date of publication in the Official Journal, so that distributors and suppliers have sufficient time to comply with the new requirements. Existing stocks of tyres will be exempted from these rules for a period of 12 months.
Thus, the Republic of Moldova fulfills its commitments undertaken within the European integration process, contributing to reducing energy consumption at the national level and protecting the environment.
