Minister of Energy, Victor Parlicov, met with the Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Moldova, Fern Horine. The parties exchanged views on the projects and reforms launched in the energy sector of the Republic of Moldova, in particular with the assistance of the British Government, with the aim of strengthening energy security and increasing the energy resilience of our country.

At the same time, the minister stressed that the Republic of Moldova is ready to guarantee the continuous supply of electricity and natural gas to end consumers in any of the scenarios related to the expiration of the natural gas transit contract through Ukraine on January 1, 2025.

Victor Parlicov thanked the British government for the continuous support and financial assistance provided to our country to strengthen efforts in the energy efficiency segment and in the process of aligning with the standards of the European energy market.

Specifically, last year the National Center for Sustainable Energy (CNED) received as a donation high-performance equipment and devices necessary for conducting energy audits. The equipment, worth 81 thousand US dollars, was provided by USAID Moldova and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland within the framework of the “Energy Security of the Republic of Moldova” (MESA) Project.

Also within the framework of the USAID Project “Energy Security of the Republic of Moldova” (MESA), with the support of USAID Moldova and the Embassy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Chisinau, a support program for local SMEs was launched. The Embassy of the United Kingdom contributed 2 million euros to the financing of this program. The goal of the program was to help SMEs save electricity and reduce costs by implementing energy efficiency projects and replacing outdated equipment, as well as installing new equipment such as: heat pumps, high-efficiency condensing natural gas boilers, efficient and appropriate technological equipment for the production of goods, etc.

At the same time, through the Multi-Donor Trust Fund "Moldova - Development, Resilience and Opportunities for Well-being" (M-GROW), managed by the World Bank, the British government contributed 9 million pounds, including to support infrastructure projects, ensuring energy security and our country's resilience to climate change.
