Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu took part today in the 5th edition of the EBA Business Outlook event, organized by the European Business Association, a platform that brought together high-ranking officials from the Republic of Moldova and the European Union, representatives of the business community, and economic experts.

The event was dedicated to economic and investment outlooks, including the European Union’s new multiannual financial framework, the implementation of the Growth Plan, and capital market development opportunities. A special focus was placed on the energy sector, including developments and investments in the natural gas sector.

During the panel “Developing a resilient energy market: policies, grid, and investment perspectives,” the minister presented the strategic directions of Moldova’s energy sector. Dorin Junghietu emphasized that the country is accelerating its integration into the European energy market by aligning with EU standards and modernizing energy infrastructure.

“We are building a modern, connected, and resilient energy system, an integral part of the European energy space. We have taken important steps toward a competitive market, launched energy efficiency programs, and strengthened the protection of vulnerable consumers. Energy is no longer just an economic sector – it is an essential component of national security,” the minister stressed.

Dorin Junghietu highlighted the progress achieved in 2025, including the launch of electricity markets and the operationalization of the Moldovan Energy Market Operator, marking the transition toward a market model based on European rules, transparency, and competition. Referring to the process of electricity market liberalization and integration with the European market planned for 2028, the minister noted existing challenges:

“In order to complete market liberalization and achieve coupling with the European Union market, we need to overcome several important challenges, especially those related to increasing cross-border electricity transfer capacity,” said Dorin Junghietu.

At the same time, the minister emphasized the importance of diversifying natural gas supply sources and reducing critical dependencies:

“Diversifying sources and access to new markets create the conditions for real competition, which brings fairer prices and better services for consumers,” the minister said.

Regarding investments, Dorin Junghietu noted that the Republic of Moldova’s Growth Plan is an essential tool for modernizing the energy sector:

“The Growth Plan is not only a source of financing, but a mechanism through which we connect reforms with concrete investments. In the energy sector, major investments are planned for the modernization of electricity networks managed by Moldelectrica, investments that are essential for energy security and the integration of renewable sources,” he stressed.

The minister reiterated that the strategic objective remains strengthening energy independence and reducing import dependency, including through the expansion of interconnections with Romania and the European Union and the development of storage capacities.
