The State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Carolina Novac, paid a visit to Efes Moldova S.A., one of the winning companies of the Green Award 2025 competition organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Moldova (AmCham). The company was awarded in the categories “Excellence in Integrating Green Practices,” “Excellence in Energy Efficiency,” and “Excellence in Efficient Water Use” for its substantial investments in energy efficiency, resource consumption reduction, and carbon footprint minimization.

During the visit, the State Secretary congratulated the Efes Moldova team for their achievements and their continuous commitment to promoting sustainable practices.

“Today we see how innovation and social responsibility contribute to an efficient and sustainable transition toward a green economy. It is essential that we continue to encourage partnerships between the public and private sectors to ensure a cleaner and more energy-efficient future,” stated Carolina Novac, State Secretary at the Ministry of Energy.

Through total investments of over €600,000 in 13 energy efficiency projects, Efes Moldova has significantly reduced its consumption of water, electricity, and natural gas, while cutting its carbon footprint by 578 tons. Among the most notable projects are:

• Recovery of biogas from the wastewater treatment plant and its use in the boiler room, reducing total gas consumption by 12% (135,000 m³ per year), equivalent to the annual consumption of 40 apartments.

• Modernization of the cooling tower, resulting in annual savings of 247,600 kWh.

• Heat recovery from the PET blowing machine – an investment generating annual savings of 57,498 kWh.

• Insulation of pipes and equipment with innovative materials, reducing thermal energy consumption by 335,409 kWh.

• Installation of a CO₂ evaporator, saving 214,661 kWh annually.

• Implementation of reverse osmosis (Phase II), leading to an 8% reduction in total water consumption (equivalent to 26,400 m³).

• Optimization of the washing and disinfection (CIP) station – annual water savings of 13,500 m³.

• Replacement of the gas-powered forklift fleet with electric ones, contributing to emission reductions and lower operational costs.

Additionally, the company has installed 50 kW of photovoltaic panels to power some internal processes and is planning the construction of a 1 MW solar park to expand green production.

“Examples like Efes Moldova show that investments in energy efficiency not only reduce costs but also bring direct benefits to the environment and economic competitiveness. Each such project contributes to our national goal of transitioning to a green and sustainable economy,” added Carolina Novac.

The Green Award 2025 competition, organized by AmCham Moldova, recognized impactful initiatives in seven categories: biodiversity, e-mobility, educational campaigns, leadership ambassador, sustainable agriculture, green financing, and water consumption management. The event highlights companies and organizations that contribute to reducing carbon emissions, adopting green practices, and supporting Moldova’s transition toward a sustainable economy.
