The Government Facilitates the Increase of Renewable Energy Production Share in the Republic of Moldova

Large eligible renewable energy producers will be given priority in the process of issuing connection permits to the electricity grid. A decision in this regard was approved today during the Cabinet of Ministers' meeting.
The document establishes a six-year obligation for system operators to grant network access to renewable energy producers benefiting from the "fixed price" support scheme. This means that connection requests from large eligible producers will be placed at the top of the waiting list. In cases where the requested capacities are unavailable, alternative solutions will be proposed in areas where network capacity is available.
The project is necessary because, out of the 96 currently valid permits with a total capacity of approximately 1600 MW, only 5% have been effectively connected to the electricity grid. This situation limits the ability of investors with genuine intentions to develop renewable energy power plants.
In the long term, the project will contribute to increasing the share of renewable energy in the country's electricity mix and fulfilling Moldova’s commitment to ensure at least 30% of its electricity consumption comes from renewable sources by 2030. In pursuit of this goal, the first auctions are underway to grant the status of large eligible producer, with 105 MW allocated for wind power installations and 60 MW for photovoltaic installations.
