The Government has approved changes to the conditions for exporting electricity and re-exporting gasoline from the Giurgiulești International Port, in the context of the energy sector alert declared for a period of 60 days. At the same time, a limit of 20 liters was imposed for diesel sold in consumer containers.
These decisions were made following an assessment of risks related to the security of supply for petroleum products and electricity. The Customs Service will allow the export or re-export of standard petroleum products from Giurgiulești Port only if stock levels exceed 5,000 tons for gasoline and 25,000 tons for diesel. In this context, the gasoline threshold was reduced from 8,000 to 5,000 tons.
At the same time, restrictions were introduced for retail diesel sales. Sales in containers intended for petroleum products will only be allowed in quantities of up to 20 liters.
Additionally, conditions for electricity exports were relaxed, with the export restriction between 06:00–09:00 being lifted and maintained only during 17:00–21:00, except on Sundays and national holidays. The measures aim to ensure the priority supply of domestic consumption and the stability of the power system.
Furthermore, participants in the electricity market who do not hold contracts on the domestic market will no longer be compensated for positive imbalances (unplanned surplus energy delivered).
It is recalled that the energy sector alert was introduced to ensure the continuity of petroleum and electricity supplies, as well as to maintain petroleum product stocks, in the context of the situation in the Middle East and the ongoing disruption of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
This measure allows for faster interventions and better coordination between institutions, ensuring that available energy resources are prioritized for domestic consumption in the Republic of Moldova.
