The Government informs that, according to the Crisis Cell reports, for December 30 and December 31, 2024, the electricity consumption in the Republic of Moldova was fully covered, without the need to activate contingency contracts and/or unintended flows. For December 31, the consumption was covered from the following sources:
- MGRES/Cuciurgan Power Plant – 31%
- SA “Termoelectrica” – 25.95%
- SA “CET-Nord” – 4.29%
- State Enterprise “NHE Costești” – 0.76%
- Renewable energy – 6.85%
- Import of electricity (RO/UA) – 31.1%
According to information from SA “Energocom”, the consumption will be fully covered for today, January 1.
By December 31, 2024, MGRES delivered over 50% of the electricity needs of the right bank, which allowed for the full coverage of electricity consumption. As a result of the cessation of Russian gas supplies, at the level of the power system, it will be necessary to cover about 600 MW for the right bank.
The coverage of the required volume will be done, in particular, through procurements on the Romanian electricity exchange managed by SA "OPCOM" or based on the contracts in force between SA "Energocom" with the producers and suppliers of electricity in the region
As for the natural gas sector, no incidents were reported. The pressures in the segments of the transmission system, managed by SRL "Vestmoldtransgaz", are within the limits of functional parameters.
In the case of thermal energy, no breakdowns or incidents were recorded at SA "CET-Nord" and "Termoelectrica", and the generation facilities are operating normally, according to the pre-established schedule. Currently, the daily consumption of natural gas is about 260 thousand cubic meters per day at JSC "CET-Nord" and 1.88 million cubic meters per day at JSC "Termoelectrica".
In the Transnistrian region and the Security Zone, today, January 1, 2025, the relevant enterprises in the Transnistrian region have stopped supplying natural gas, centralized heating and hot water to several localities, mostly in private sector buildings that have alternative heating sources. "Tiraspoltransgaz" also disconnected household consumers in the localities controlled by the constitutional authorities: Varnița, Cocieri, Corjova, Coșnita, Doroțcaia, Molovata Nouă, Pârâta, Pohrebea, Vasilievca, Copanca, Hagimus and Fîrlădeni.
Earlier, on December 28, 2024, the company "Tiraspoltransgaz" disconnected several public institutions in the localities controlled by the constitutional authorities from the natural gas network, including schools, hospitals and cultural institutions. Also, the heating agent was stopped for penitentiaries no. 8 and no. 12, the territorial subdivisions of the police and prosecutor's office of the Republic of Moldova located in the city of Bender.
The authorities in Chisinau are looking for solutions to connect these state institutions to alternative energy resources.
The Russian company "Gazprom" suspended the delivery of natural gas to "Moldovagaz" starting January 1, 2025, 08:00 (Moscow time). In connection with the potential humanitarian crisis in the Transnistrian region due to the Russian Federation's failure to comply with the contract for natural gas supplies to consumers on the left bank of the Dniester, the Republic of Moldova has been in a state of emergency since December 16, 2024.
