The first electricity transaction on the Day-Ahead Market (PZU) took place yesterday on the platform of the Electricity Market Operator of Moldova (OPEM), marking the beginning of a new chapter in the evolution of Moldova’s electricity market.

The transaction was carried out by SA Energocom, which symbolically purchased 1 MWh. The test aims to verify the operability and functionality of the new market, as well as to assess how it can support the diversification and transparency of electricity procurement mechanisms.

This operation marks a fresh start for the national energy sector. The Day-Ahead Market is a crucial step in developing a competitive, sustainable system aligned with European standards. Its operation enables transparent price formation based on supply and demand within short time intervals and will also allow for the implementation of time-based differentiated tariffs.

The launch of the PZU is not only a technical reform but also a strategic one: it contributes to strengthening the country’s energy security, stimulates investment in production and infrastructure, and paves the way for coupling with European energy markets.
