Energy Minister Victor Parlicov visited Edinet district, affected by last week's unprecedented storm, on Thursday evening. In Alexăndreni, the minister met with the intervention teams of the Northern Electricity Distribution Networks, examined the pieces of power lines damaged by the storms and discussed the response time of specialists.
A half-hour storm left dozens of localities in the north without electricity. Gusts of wind tore off roofs and branches or even whole trees that fell over the lines, knocking down pieces of electricity networks and poles. Including 9 high-voltage pylons fell to the ground.
The Ministry of Energy and the management of RED Nord have already drawn the first lessons from the days of intervention by the technical teams to avoid domino effects in the future. One of the solutions is to pull networks through underground cables in more populated areas. In the city of Edinet, there are already several kilometers of such networks, which helped to reconnect the district hospital and residential blocks a few hours after the storms. The second lesson is that line protection zones are not being respected, and there needs to be more flexibility and cooperation with the Environmental Inspectorate and town halls to clear these areas in a timely manner.
Communication with consumers needs to be improved, the technical director of RED Nord, Viorel Corbu, admitted. The call center had so many calls that some callers were rejected by phone systems. In crisis situations, the company started to communicate on social networks, but realized that this communication tool should be used more often and extended to other platforms.
