The reform of the energy system in the Republic of Moldova over the last year and a half and the intensification of the energy dialog with the European Union were the main points of the online discussion held by Energy Minister Victor Parlicov with the European Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson.

The two officials agreed to hold the European Union - Republic of Moldova energy summit in Brussels in May.

Energy Minister Victor Parlicov thanked the Commissioner for the support and openness of the European community to help the Moldovan government in all areas of energy, which has made it possible for citizens to receive compensation and for the sector's enterprises and the entire sector to undergo an unprecedented transformation in terms of speed and intensity.

"The situation in the energy sector is much more stable than half a year ago. We are preparing for the next cold season. We are working in cooperation with colleagues from Ukraine and other countries. I am proud to say that today the Republic of Moldova is not only asking for help, but has become part of the European energy security platform," said Victor Parlicov. He referred to the experience gained in recent months by Energocom, which is the first company in the region to use the North-South corridor, also called the "vertical corridor", Greece-Bulgaria-Romania-Moldova-Ukraine.

The European Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, was interested in the stages of transposition of the acquis communautaire, noting that one of the files on which results are expected is the unbundling of the gas transportation system operator Moldovagaz. The EU is ready to continue assisting Moldova in reforming the energy sector, the Brussels official reiterated.

Another topic under discussion was the reform of the Energy Efficiency Agency and the creation of the Energy Efficiency Residential Fund, with both public and foreign donor contributions. In this area, said Minister Victor Parlicov, citizens can feel the reduction in their bills by making energy consumption more efficient.
