The analysis of the cybersecurity component of the entities in the energy sector, initiated by the Ministry of Energy, has highlighted the need to strengthen information systems in the field and to train managers and persons responsible for information technologies. The subject was discussed today at a working session attended by representatives of energy companies and authorities in the sector.

Cyber-attacks and ensuring the protection of information systems is a major challenge for the energy sector, as the data obtained as a result of the attacks can be used as a political weapon, noted State Secretary Cristina Pereteatcu, who is also responsible for the digitalization of the sector.

"We must hurry up with ensuring the security of critical infrastructure, including protection from cyberattacks, and be prepared for possible risks," Energy Minister Victor Parlicov told the meeting.

"Other institutions responsible for ensuring cyber security will be involved in this process. It is a major problem that we need to solve," State Secretary Cristina Pereteatcu added.

In recent years, the digital transformation of the economy and society has accelerated, with new opportunities and new challenges. The consequences of cyber-attacks are becoming increasingly costly and in severe forms can disrupt citizens' everyday lives. And the energy sector is among the areas that rely heavily on computer networks and systems and are thus exposed to potential risks.

One of the ideas put forward during the discussion was the creation of a cyber protection shield. At the same time, possibilities will be identified for securing data, improving technologies for operating and using the IT platforms needed to ensure the security of digital systems, and developing protection strategies.
