Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu participated in the Energy Strategy Summit 2026, held in Bucharest on 8 June, one of the major regional events dedicated to the future of the energy sector in Southeastern and Central Europe.

During the “Energy in Development: Strengthening the Regional Role” session, the Minister presented the transformation underway in the Republic of Moldova, highlighting the country’s increasingly important contribution to strengthening regional energy security.

“In 2026, energy is one of the most important components of national resilience. The Republic of Moldova knows this reality very well. Today, however, Moldova is becoming an example of how a small country can turn a crisis into a strategic opportunity. We have moved from vulnerability to resilience, from dependence to diversification, and from energy isolation to regional integration,” said Minister Dorin Junghietu.

In his speech, the official reiterated that the experience of recent years has demonstrated that energy security cannot be built overnight, nor can it be treated solely as a technical issue.

“Energy security is not built during a crisis. It is built before a crisis, through investments, interconnections, regional cooperation and the courage to make long-term strategic decisions,” the Minister said.

Dorin Junghietu highlighted the essential role played by Romania in strengthening the Republic of Moldova’s energy security during difficult periods, noting that the partnership between the two countries has made a decisive contribution to reducing vulnerabilities and diversifying energy supply sources.

“Romania stood by Moldova when we needed it most. It provided gas when there was uncertainty, electricity when our system was under pressure, and confidence when others were betting on our vulnerability. Today, we are building together a modern energy market connected to the European energy space,” the Minister concluded.

In his remarks, the Minister presented the main development priorities for the Republic of Moldova’s energy sector. These include expanding interconnections with Romania and the European Union, integrating into the European energy market, developing strategic infrastructure, and increasing renewable energy generation capacity.

Particular emphasis during the discussions was placed on infrastructure projects that will strengthen the Republic of Moldova’s energy connectivity, including the Bălți–Suceava and Strășeni–Gutinaș power lines. These projects will contribute to strengthening energy security and fully integrating the country into the European energy market.

The Minister also spoke about the need to invest in energy storage and modernize electricity grids, against the backdrop of the rapid growth of renewable energy generation and the transformations taking place across Europe.

The discussions at the summit focused on strengthening regional cooperation, developing cross-border infrastructure, integrating energy markets, and moving from crisis-response measures towards long-term investment and strategic planning.

Minister Dorin Junghietu reiterated that the Republic of Moldova is ready to actively contribute to Europe’s energy transformation as a reliable partner and a bridge between the region’s energy markets.
