October 23, 2025, Chișinău — Dorin Junghietu, Minister of Energy, presented today the results achieved during his tenure in the government led by Dorin Recean, emphasizing that 2025 marks a turning point for the Republic of Moldova in its energy transformation process.

“In just a few years, Moldova has undergone a profound transformation of the energy sector — from vulnerability and dependence to a competitive, modern market focused on secure energy sources. Today, in 2025, we can say with certainty: our country can no longer be held hostage through energy. Every megawatt of installed renewable energy protects our independence and energy security,” the minister stated.

In 2025, the country has over 850 MW installed from renewable sources, nearly four times more than three years ago. For the first time in history, in August, the national electricity consumption was fully covered by domestic renewable production at a certain hour of the day. New auctions for 165 MW of new wind and solar capacities have attracted investments of over €200 million, while another 170 MW with storage capacities will be auctioned by the end of the year.

In parallel, Moldova is accelerating energy efficiency works in public buildings, residential housing, and educational institutions. Hundreds of schools, hospitals, and residential blocks are being thermally rehabilitated through programs funded by the European Union, European Investment Bank, EBRD, and the World Bank, contributing to reduced energy consumption and lower costs for citizens.

Programs like Green House and Eco-Voucher, implemented by the National Center for Sustainable Energy (CNED), provide direct support to households investing in energy efficiency and modern technologies.

Minister Junghietu emphasized that Moldova enters this winter with replenished gas reserves, and projects for energy interconnection with Romania and the EU market are progressing. The strategic Vulcănești–Chișinău Energy Independence Line, implemented with the support of the World Bank, whose direct beneficiary is the state enterprise Moldelectrica, is 90% completed. The line is expected to be finalized by the end of the year.

“We have demonstrated that we can build an energy system that is European in spirit, technology, and values. Energy is not just an industry — it is the backbone of a modern and developed state. What we build today will ensure the well-being of future generations,” concluded Minister Dorin Junghietu, thanking the Ministry of Energy team and companies in the sector.

At the same time, the digitalization of the energy sector is advancing: over 35,000 smart meters were installed this year through the smart metering program, launched with the support of UNDP and the Government of Italy, ensuring accurate billing, real-time data, and better control over consumption.

Minister Dorin Junghietu stressed that the energy transformation of the Republic of Moldova is an irreversible process that will continue into the next government term.
