Victor Parlicov discussed with mayors and businessmen from Soroca district

While on a working visit to Soroca, the Minister of Energy, Victor Parlicov, discussed with mayors and businessmen from the district, to whom he told about the priorities of the central authorities for the coming years, including in the energy field, but also about the progress made in the recent period, which has strengthened access to safe energy for the population at affordable prices.

"It was a very complicated period, with the start of the war in the neighboring country, but we have demonstrated that we can manage. We have diversified our sources of supply and now we are more secure in terms of energy, we have reached the minimum level of security, which allows us to make plans for the future and focus on attracting investments in the sector," Victor Parlicov noted.

The minister stressed that a priority of the Chisinau authorities is to further increase the level of energy security by completing the Vulcănești - Chisinau line, so that electricity from Romania can be imported without going through the Cuciurgan energy node. At the same time, the completion of the line will allow the Republic of Moldova to integrate into the European energy market, through the Romanian market, by the end of 2028.

"Making buildings more efficient also remains a priority. The cheapest energy is the one we do not consume, and we as a society must unlearn to be energy wasteful. We lose over 50 percent of the energy consumed in buildings and thus heat up the atmosphere," Parlicov pointed out at the meeting with locals.

The minister mentioned that the process of contracting energy audit services, financed by GIZ Moldova, for 59 individual houses is currently continuing. The audits will determine the list of energy rehabilitation measures for houses, which can be financed from the Fund for Energy Efficiency in the Residential Sector (FEERM). These measures may include thermal insulation works of external walls, roof and basement, modernization of the heating system, installation of a solid biofuel-based thermal power plant, replacement of doors and windows, etc.

At the end of the discussions, the minister spoke about the increased interest in renewable energy, especially the installation of photovoltaic parks, and this has made the Republic of Moldova become a green energy exporting country, in Romania, Ukraine and even Croatia.
