Moldova will have an information system for energy management of public buildings

With the help of the Dutch Embassy, the Republic of Moldova will have an energy management information system for public buildings by the end of the year. There are currently 4,500 public buildings over 400 square meters in the database, but this data is being updated. The system developed by Green City Lab will include both data on managers, beneficiaries of public buildings and energy consumption over the last three years to improve energy performance. An energy audit will also be carried out for 300 public buildings.

The Minister of Energy, Victor Parlicov, thanked the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Republic of Moldova, Fred Duijn, for his support in the realization of the first information system of public buildings in terms of energy consumption. The minister also said that this database will help prioritize certain energy efficiency projects in the public sector.

"Our immediate objective is to start energy efficiency projects in both the public and residential sectors. In the case of public buildings, we want the money saved as a result of energy efficiency to be reinvested for other purposes. That's why this information system will help us to have the big picture," said Minister Victor Parlicov.

The official also noted the contribution of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the implementation of the project "First Swallows", implemented by the Analytical Center Expert-Grup, through which energy audits have been conducted in 10 residential blocks, and in one of them will be co-financed infrastructure improvements for more efficient energy consumption.

"We aim to reduce bills through such energy efficiency projects and subsidies," the energy minister added.

At the same time, Victor Parlicov thanked the Netherlands for helping the Republic of Moldova at crucial moments during the energy crisis, providing political support, expertise and financial assistance focused on diversifying energy supply sources and increasing energy security. For example, in October 2021, the Republic of Moldova's first gas purchases on the international market were made with the support of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Other topics Energy Minister Victor Parlicov discussed with Dutch Ambassador Fred Duijn were the country's renewable energy potential and its integration into the grid, as well as the green transition agenda.
