European Green Pact to be implemented in Moldova

The European Green Pact is to be implemented in the Republic of Moldova as well, and in the context of the EU integration process it represents an additional opportunity to attract funds for energy efficiency and renewable energy, said Carolina Novac, Secretary of State, after her visit to Brussels.

We want to strengthen the EU's support to reinforce our capacities in the field of decarbonization of the energy sector, which will require massive funding in the coming decades. In this context, funding opportunities under the Life and Horizon Europe programs were discussed, as well as instruments such as Taiex and Twinning dedicated to increasing institutional capacity to implement energy and climate priorities.

"We wanted to clarify the steps for the implementation of the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), which will be applied in the Republic of Moldova from 2025. What legislative and regulatory adjustments we are going to realize, procedures, training of employees, but also to understand the impact of this mechanism on the sectors of the economy, what measures to reduce emissions are to be carried out and what investments are needed at the enterprise level", said Carolina Novac.

During their visit to Brussels, Secretary of State Carolina Novac and Ina Coșeru, Vice-President of the Parliamentary Committee for Environment and Regional Development, had a series of bilateral meetings with European officials. Among them, MEP Eugen Tomac, representatives of the Directorate-General for Energy, Directorate-General for Environment, Directorate-General for Climate Action and Directorate-General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations.
