The State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Carolina Novac, participated in the first edition of the nZEB Days (nearly zero-energy buildings), which will be held at the Faculty of Urban Planning and Architecture of the Technical University of Moldova (UTM) from November 28 to 30, 2024.
The event brings together experts in the field of construction and energy efficiency, providers of innovative solutions and technologies for reducing energy consumption, investors and representatives of public authorities, with the aim of presenting the latest technologies and trends in “nearly zero-energy buildings” and was organized by ZEBRO Romania and ZUGRO Moldova, with the financial support of the RECONOMY Program and the support of partners EcoVisio, the Faculty of Urban Planning and Architecture of UTM and the Satoris PR & Digital Agency.
At the opening of the event, Carolina Novac noted that the nZEB Days come as a direct response to the growing needs in the Republic of Moldova to align the building sector with the latest European energy performance standards.
“I feel honored to participate in an event that essentially underlines our common commitment to developing sustainable and energy-efficient solutions. It is an excellent platform to discuss the future of not only building energy efficiency, but also building modernization, as these two segments are essential to accelerate the Republic of Moldova’s progress in reducing energy consumption,” said the Secretary of State.
Participating in the discussion panel dedicated to the transition to energy efficiency, Carolina Novac highlighted several initiatives and projects under implementation that come to strengthen efforts in the energy efficiency of public and residential buildings.
Among these are the "Energy Efficiency in the Republic of Moldova" project, which aims to improve energy efficiency in 16 buildings of medical institutions, with a grant of 15 million euros from the European Union. Also, the STEEM project, with a funding of 54.5 million US dollars, which will support the energy renovation of 46 schools across the country. But also the Energy Efficiency Fund in the Residential Sector, through which financing products were launched for the energy modernization of apartment blocks as well as for the energy efficiency of individual houses in rural households with a degree of extreme vulnerability.
"Energy efficiency has become a national priority, confirmed by the National Development Strategy "European Moldova 2030" and the National Development Plan 2024-2026. In this regard, the construction sector plays a crucial role, given that almost 48% of the final energy consumption in the Republic of Moldova comes from the building sector. Therefore, promoting the nearly zero-energy building standard and implementing appropriate measures for the renovation of existing blocks of flats are essential for increasing energy efficiency in the country,” emphasized Carolina Novac during the panel discussion.
The nZEB Days represent a unique opportunity to bring to the attention of the public in Chisinau the new European standards in the field of efficient buildings, with the aim of promoting the development of sustainable solutions that reduce energy consumption and contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
