Today, the Ministry of Energy and representatives of the I.S. "Center for Applied Metrology and Certification" met to discuss the maximum permissible interval between two successive metrological checks of measuring instruments subject to legal metrological control. Cristina Pereteatcu, Secretary of State in charge of digitalization at the Ministry of Energy, noted that technological advances allow the development of more accurate meters and it would be beneficial to extend the period of their verification. The longer validity of metrological certificates would reduce the costs for economic agents associated with frequent meter checks. Thus, the meeting discussed the possibility of extending the metrological verification interval for smart meters to a longer interval, such as in some EU countries, where the term is 10 or 16 years. It was also discussed the possibility of establishing a new position in the nomenclature of the metering list that applies only to smart meters. In order to do this, a technical analysis will be carried out and the results will be discussed with the Center for Applied Metrology and Certification for the necessary confirmation procedures. This statistical information will allow further procedures to amend the relevant normative acts. The National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) will be involved in analyzing to what extent its regulation on energy metering for commercial purposes corresponds with the development of smart meters. The meeting took place in the framework of the Pilot Programme for the Implementation of Smart Meters, which is part of the Government of Moldova's efforts to digitize the energy sector, with the support of the United Nations Development Programme in Moldova and the Government of Italy.
