January 3, 2024, Chișinău - Moldovans with smart meters will pay differential electricity tariffs based on their consumption hours. This decision was approved today by the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE).

Thus, residential consumers connected to the low-voltage distribution networks (0.4 kV) of Premier Energy Distribution will pay 4.32 lei per kWh consumed between 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM, and 3.31 lei per kWh consumed between 11:00 PM and 7:00 AM.

Consumers in the northern region of the country, in the service area of FEE Nord, connected to low-voltage networks, will have day tariffs of 4.89 lei per kWh and night tariffs of 3.90 lei per kWh.

The same time intervals will apply for the differential tariffs for consumers connected to medium and high-voltage power lines, as well as for consumers who use the last-resort supply service. The last-resort supply service is applied to consumers who signed contracts with alternative suppliers but were unable to meet their contractual obligations.

The introduction of differential tariffs is an important step in changing energy consumption behavior in Moldova and reducing consumption during peak hours. Currently, the consumption curve peaks in the morning and evening, between 7:00-11:00 AM and 6:00-11:00 PM, and to cover this demand for energy, it is important at higher prices from the OPCOM market in Romania. As a result, the volumes of expensive energy influence the general tariff for final consumers.

“The vast majority of enterprises have smart meters installed, which allow for the application of differential tariffs. With the introduction of these tariffs, industrial consumers will be able to schedule their economic activities to benefit from lower tariffs,” stated State Secretary Constantin Borosan.
