The Minister of Energy, Dorin Junghietu, held a working meeting with the Ambassador of France to the Republic of Moldova, Dominique Waag, along with representatives of French companies and institutions, to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the French business community, including Vinci Energie, Schneider Electric, JR Conseil, and Streamwide, as well as officials from AFD and Business France.

During the discussions, the main challenges facing Moldova’s energy sector were addressed, including the launch of tenders for renewable energy (170 MW of wind and 22 MW of storage capacity), integration of renewable sources into the grid, and modernization of electricity transmission and distribution infrastructure. The parties also discussed the security of natural gas and electricity supply, including the situation and prospects for the Transnistrian region in this context.

The event continues the dialogue initiated during last year’s business forum in Paris and reconfirms France’s commitment to supporting the development of Moldova’s energy sector. Key ongoing projects were highlighted, including technical assistance programs through Expertise France and AFD, financing studies for the modernization of Termoelectrica, as well as academic cooperation and exchanges between specialists.

The French side emphasized its expertise in developing renewable energy projects, modernizing electrical networks, and implementing “smart grid” technologies.

Minister Dorin Junghietu thanked the French administration for its support and stated: “The Republic of Moldova is firmly committed to accelerating the energy transition through the development of renewable energy capacities, grid modernization, and strengthening energy security. Cooperation with French partners is essential to leverage advanced expertise and technologies in this field, contributing to the creation of a more resilient and sustainable energy system.”

In conclusion, Ambassador Dominique Waag congratulated the Ministry of Energy on its progress and reiterated France’s openness to further strengthening bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.
