16.12.2024, New Delhi – The Republic of Moldova has joined the International Solar Alliance (ISA), reinforcing its commitment to supporting the transition to a greener, more sustainable and resilient energy system. The agreement to join the International Solar Alliance (ISA) was signed by the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, Mihail Popșoi, on December 15, during a working visit to New Delhi and a meeting with the Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
The accession to the ISA is the result of a series of discussions between the Secretariat of the International Solar Alliance and the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Moldova, which led to the approval of the invitation for our country to join this international organization.
The signing of the accession agreement opened new possibilities for cooperation between government institutions and the private sector, aimed at the development and implementation of solar technologies, innovations in the energy sector and the promotion of research and development. Joining the ISA will also contribute to achieving national objectives in the field of renewable energy, in particular increasing the share of electricity from renewable sources, with a particular emphasis on solar energy.
It should be noted that among the main goals of the Alliance is the promotion of solar energy and sustainable solutions in the field of renewable energy, and our country will benefit from significant opportunities for international collaboration.
The Republic of Moldova has made ambitious commitments regarding the transition to a more sustainable energy system, with the objective of reaching 30% of energy consumption from renewable sources by 2030. In this context, the ISA will support the country in the development of 510 MW of new renewable energy capacities, of which a significant part will come from solar sources. This is part of the national strategy to reduce dependence on energy imports and reduce carbon emissions.
The International Solar Alliance (ISA) is a global platform dedicated to the promotion of solar energy, which consolidates efforts to produce energy from renewable sources to encourage international collaboration and the implementation of projects focused on solar energy production. Among the objectives of the ISA are addressing common challenges in expanding the use of solar energy, promoting research and development in the field, as well as supporting financing for innovative technologies in the field.
By joining the ISA, the Republic of Moldova becomes the 121st member of this Alliance and reaffirms its commitment to sustainable energy solutions and environmental protection, being in line with global trends in terms of green transition.
