At the beginning of the meetings, Minister Junghietu met with European Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen and the Director-General of DG ENER, Ditte Juul Jørgensen. Commissioner Jørgensen reiterated the European Commission’s full support for the efforts of the Government of the Republic of Moldova to strengthen energy resilience and align the country with the EU energy acquis.

The Moldovan minister also met with Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Energy, Olha Yukhymchuk. The parties reviewed opportunities for bilateral cooperation in the field of energy security, preparations for the winter season, and the expansion of collaboration on electricity interconnections and energy supply, in the context of intensified Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

During the meeting with Greece’s Minister of Energy, Stavros Papastavrou, the officials discussed cooperation within the High-Level Group on Central and South Eastern Europe Energy Connectivity (CESEC), highlighting the importance of regional interconnections and measures to reduce energy prices in Southeastern Europe.

In talks with Belgium’s Minister of Energy, Mathieu Bihet, both sides agreed to enhance cooperation between their respective energy institutions and to exchange experience in developing renewable energy sources.

Denmark’s Minister for Energy, Climate and Utilities, Lars Aagaard — who chaired the Council meeting — praised Moldova’s progress in aligning with the European energy acquis and in strengthening the resilience of the national energy system during his discussion with Minister Junghietu. Continued support for Moldova’s efforts in these areas was also expressed during exchanges with Ebba Busch, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy of Sweden, and Sari Multala, Minister for Climate and the Environment of Finland.
