Estonia's experience in the process of digitization of the energy sector and liberalization of the electricity market was explored by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Constantin Borosan and Gheorghe Virlan, consultant in the Directorate of Electric Energy, during a study visit to Tallinn, held during the 16 - September 20.
During the visit, Constantin Borosan, together with representatives of ANRE, Moldelectrica, Premier Energy Distribution and Red Nord, participated in a series of meetings with representatives of key institutions in the energy sector of Estonia, including the Estonian Competition Authority (ECA), which plays a crucial role in the implementation of EU policies and the development of the electricity market in Estonia and the Ministry of Climate, responsible for the integration of energy and environmental policies. Also, the members of the delegation of the Republic of Moldova discussed with the representatives of the companies Elering, the energy transport operator and Electrilevi - the distribution operator that manages the critical energy infrastructure in the country.
The Moldovan delegation also had the opportunity to talk with actors from the private sector, such as Net Group, a leading IT company in the digitalization of the energy sector, and Alexela Group, a major provider of smart energy and electromobility solutions.
During the visit, crucial topics for the modernization of the energy sector in the Republic of Moldova were addressed, such as the development of smart networks, the planning of transport and distribution infrastructure, cyber security and the integration of renewable energy sources.
"Taking over the experience of Estonia in the digitization of electrical networks and the integration of modern technologies will significantly boost the process of development and modernization of the energy sector in the Republic of Moldova. The transition to a liberalized energy market, supported by smart networks and digital solutions, will allow us to make significant progress in modernizing the infrastructure and meeting the climate neutrality objectives," Constantin Borosan emphasized after the visit.
The visit was organized by USAID, within the Moldova Energy Security Activity (MESA) program, which supports the modernization and security of the energy sector in the Republic of Moldova.
