Minister of Energy, Victor Parlicov, had a meeting with the new Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in the Republic of Moldova, Yeşim Oruç. The meeting was also attended by the resident representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in our country, Daniela Gasparikova.
During the discussions, Victor Parlicov presented the priorities of the Ministry of Energy, including energy security and integration into the European Union energy market.
“The Ministry of Energy is firmly committed to strengthening the energy security of the Republic of Moldova and facilitating its connection to the European market, an essential aspect for the stability and economic development of the country,” Parlicov pointed out.
Victor Parlicov also spoke about the launch of the first renewable energy tenders in the Republic of Moldova, a project that opens the door for national and international investments in the construction of 165 MW of wind and photovoltaic parks.
Another topic discussed was the digitalization of the energy sector, including the installation, within a pilot project, carried out by UNDP Moldova with the support of the Government of Italy, of the installation of smart meters.
“Smart meters represent an important step towards the introduction of differentiated tariffs depending on electricity consumption, and smart grids will facilitate better management of consumption, the integration of more locally produced renewable energy sources and, ultimately, the reduction of energy dependence and greenhouse gas emissions,” Parlicov added.
In the context of the natural gas crisis in the region, which also affected the Republic of Moldova, the Action Plan for exceptional situations in the natural gas sector was discussed. Parlicov assured that the Republic of Moldova is technically prepared for any scenario.
Yeşim Oruç reconfirmed the UN's firm support for the sustainable development of the Republic of Moldova.
