December 18, 2024, Chisinau - The Executive today approved the Regulation on the protection zones of electrical networks. The document comes in the context of the expansion and modernization of the energy infrastructure in our country, including major interconnection projects with the Romanian energy system, such as the "Vulcănești-Chisinau" high-voltage power line.
The Regulation establishes clear limitations for the use of land in the vicinity of electrical networks and prohibits the construction of residential and non-residential buildings in these critical areas, in order to prevent accidents and ensure the uninterrupted delivery of electricity.
The new provisions include the express establishment of protection zones for electrical substations, transformer stations, distribution points, and sectioning and switching cells and equipment. The reduction of protection distances according to technological advances and new engineering solutions, such as the use of insulated or protected conductors, is another significant change. For example, the distance for overhead power lines with voltage up to 1 kV with insulated conductors is reduced to 1 meter, and for 1-20 kV lines with protected conductors to 5 meters.
The Regulation also establishes strict rules for the coexistence of power networks with other engineering installations and infrastructure objects, establishing the necessary framework for preventing dangerous interference.
The measures are designed to align with modern safety requirements and to effectively respond to the ever-growing energy needs of the Republic of Moldova, while protecting the public and the environment.
In the Republic of Moldova, the power transmission networks comprise approximately 6,228 km of power lines, and the power distribution networks total approximately 56,850 km of lines, being located on both public and private lands.
