Strengthening climate action and accelerating the energy transition in Europe and neighboring countries were discussed at the “Energy Community Ministerial Roundtable”, where the Minister of Energy, Victor Parlicov, met with H.E. Kadri Simson, European Commissioner for Energy, and other high-level representatives of the Energy Community contracting states and the European Commission.
During the event, Minister Parlicov reaffirmed the commitment of the Republic of Moldova to achieve ambitious decarbonization objectives and alignment with European standards in the field of energy and climate. Some of the targets set by our country for 2030 were mentioned, including increasing the share of renewable energy to 27% of final energy consumption, a 30% share of electricity generated from renewable sources, and maintaining total energy consumption at 2.8 Mtoe.
“For Moldova, the development of energy infrastructure and the diversification of energy sources are fundamental for a secure and sustainable energy transition. We aim to attract investments in low-emission technologies and adopt innovative solutions, so as to contribute to the international decarbonization agenda. At the same time, we are investing in energy efficiency, in order to reduce energy consumption,” said Minister Parlicov.
Among the priorities mentioned by Victor Parlicov are the implementation of competitive support schemes for renewable energy, the development of energy storage capacities and the energy efficiency of public and residential buildings, with the modernization of over 500,000 m² of housing spaces planned by 2027. Also. The EcoVoucher program, supported by the EU, covers up to 80% of the cost of energy-efficient equipment, contributing to the replacement of household appliances and reducing energy consumption.
During the event, Minister Parlicov and the Energy Community partners, together with the European Union, agreed to strengthen collaboration to accelerate the energy transition and achieve the common goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. A firm commitment was established to continue implementing the Decarbonization Roadmap and to advance renewable energy and energy efficiency projects, so as to ensure a transition to a green and sustainable economy. The partners stressed the importance of attracting investment and agreed on concrete mutually supportive actions that will strengthen energy resilience across the region and contribute to the common goal of climate neutrality by 2050.
