The Ministry of Energy recently hosted a meeting with representatives from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and GSE – the Energy Services Manager of Italy. The primary goal of the meeting was to assess the progress of energy sector cooperation and establish new priorities for the 2025-2027 period.

During the discussions, Carolina Novac, State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, expressed gratitude for Italy's consistent support in the energy sector, highlighting the allocation of €10 million for the project "Accelerating a Just Energy Transition in the Republic of Moldova," implemented by UNDP Moldova.

The project aims to install 35,000 smart meters and develop a smart grid for more efficient energy management, significantly contributing to the country’s energy transition.

"We are deeply grateful to Italy for the substantial support provided to modernize and enhance the efficiency of our energy sector. Italian funding and expertise have been instrumental in implementing large-scale projects that not only facilitate the energy transition but also protect the most vulnerable population groups," noted Carolina Novac during the discussions.

Notably, Italy’s support has been utilized to operationalize the "Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund," created to increase accessibility to energy resources and finance measures to reduce energy vulnerability among the population.

The discussions outlined key priorities for 2025-2027, including the promotion of electric public transport, strengthening cyber resilience, expanding the use of smart metering systems, and continuing support for programs implemented by the National Center for Sustainable Energy. Italian officials reaffirmed their commitment to providing additional support to strengthen Moldova’s energy system.

This meeting represents a significant step in deepening bilateral relations between Moldova and Italy, underlining both parties’ commitment to promoting innovative and sustainable energy solutions that support the development of a green and resilient economy.
