Although photovoltaic panels have seen a major expansion in the last two years, renewable energy is much more than that, Energy Minister Victor Parlicov told a workshop with local public authorities signatories of the Covenant of Mayors for Energy and Climate.
The energy minister encouraged local authorities to apply the renewable energy support mechanisms implemented by the government to reduce their energy costs, but also to opt for other types of renewable energy, from biofuels to biogas. At the same time, Victor Parlicov underlined the critical role of local public authorities in the implementation of national policies in the field of decarbonization of the economy, as they interact directly with the population.
The official presented the priorities of the Ministry of Energy relevant for local public authorities, in particular the reform of the Energy Efficiency Agency, which will be able to finance energy efficiency works and the realization of renewable energy projects, recovering the investments from the savings made on energy consumption.
Local public authorities signatories of the Covenant of Mayors on Energy and Climate have developed Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SEEDCAPs) and today's workshop trained them to implement renewable energy activities in practice.
