The Secretary of State of the Ministry of Energy, Cristina Pereteatcu, is participating between September 30 and October 3 this year at the Security Forum, which takes place in Warsaw, Poland. She stated, in her intervention, that energy security can only be achieved collectively, at least by those countries that rely on energy imports, such as the Republic of Moldova.
"There is always room for better coordination in cross-border projects and the use of energy corridors. The Republic of Moldova has been hit by a series of energy crises, starting with the gas crisis in October 2021. The war in Ukraine directly affected us, for example, we had blackouts in 2022. These elements have been a 'wake-up call' for us, we realize that we need to completely reshape our energy system, mainly aiming at increasing the security of energy supply and diversifying our energy sources and import routes.", Pereteatcu mentioned.
Pereteatcu mentioned that the Republic of Moldova is intensifying its efforts to become a greener and more energy independent country, aligning itself with the objectives of the European Green Pact and launching a series of ambitious initiatives. Among them are the launch of tenders for investments in large renewable energy projects, 105 MW wind and 60 MW solar, the intelligent reduction of energy consumption through energy efficiency projects of both residential and public buildings, the creation of new interconnections with Romania, two new high-voltage power lines between Suceava and Balti and between Gutinaș and Străseni are expected. The Ministry of Energy is also focusing on digitization and creating active consumers, promoting digital technologies in the energy sector, such as smart meters and smart grids, and encouraging citizen involvement in energy production and consumption.
During the visit, the Secretary of State, Cristina Pereteatcu had a series of meetings, such as the community leader, Europe and Eurasia, Marushia Gislén, with the adviser for national security from Sweden, Henrik Landerholm, but also with the executive director of the commission for the Solar Cyberspace USA, Mark Montgomery.
