On January 25, 2026, difficult weather conditions characterized by freezing rain and icy roads were recorded across the territory of the Republic of Moldova, affecting the normal operation of electricity distribution networks in several regions of the country.

The distribution system operator in the southern and central regions, Premier Energy Distribution, recorded outages in 13 localities, with a total of 3,549 consumers disconnected from the low-voltage network.

At the same time, in the northern part of the country, the distribution operator RED-Nord JSC reported a total number of unplanned outages lasting more than three minutes, which affected 21,661 consumers during the period of January 25–26, 2026, including 1,330 non-household consumers. At the same time, approximately 17,839 household consumers were reconnected to the grid within up to one hour, most of the outages occurring during the night and morning of January 25 and 26.

At the level of electricity transmission networks, on January 24, 2026, three 110 kV lines were affected. The transmission system operator, Moldelectrica, also carried out switching operations at substations to restore supply to consumers, with the process completed the same morning.

On January 26, 2026, a 110 kV line tripped, followed by a successful automatic reclosing, which allowed the rapid restoration of normal operation.

The main thermal energy supplier and electricity producer in the municipality of Chișinău, Termoelectrica JSC, was affected by a voltage drop on the 110 kV “Chișinău – Horești” power line at 7:23 a.m. on January 25. This influenced the hydraulic regime of the centralized district heating system in Chișinău. As a result of voltage dips at eight pumping stations and at the West Thermal Power Plant, these facilities were temporarily disconnected from the grid. In the suburban area, nine thermal plants were shut down due to emergency conditions and were restarted automatically or by specialized personnel by 8:00 a.m. Thanks to the proper operation of technological and power automation systems, six pumping stations were restarted automatically, and within two minutes the West Thermal Power Plant was also restarted.

As a result of hydraulic shocks, four faults were identified and repaired, and emergency teams carried out 23 field interventions to reconnect central or individual heating substations. Currently, Termoelectrica is registering thermal agent losses of up to 18 m³/h and encourages the population to report any signs of pipeline damage (steam/hot water) to the company’s dispatch service at the phone number 022 441 138.

No incidents were recorded at CET Nord or in the natural gas transmission and distribution system.
